Heavy fog hits parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai as UAE temperatures soar
Motorists warned to stay cautious as visibility plunges on key highways
DUBAI: A blanket of dense fog shrouded parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday morning, significantly affecting visibility and road conditions in multiple emirates.
From Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued repeated warnings urging motorists to exercise caution due to sharply reduced visibility on major routes.
The lowest temperature recorded in the country today was 21.5°C in Barakah 2, Al Dhafra Region, at 06:00.
Fog alerts
Fog began forming as early as 03:54 in Al Ajban and Al Faya/Saih Shuaib in Abu Dhabi, gradually extending towards the northern and coastal areas. By 04:02, Emirates Road towards Jabal Ali saw dense fog, followed by Jabal Ali and Al Maktoum International Airport within the hour. Dubai’s Madinat Hind was affected at 05:17, while Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road saw poor visibility at 05:24.
In Abu Dhabi, fog engulfed Ghantout at 06:09, and by 08:14, Saqr Port in Ras Al Khaimah and Sir Abu Nu’Ayr Island were also under thick cover. Hezaiwah in Umm Al Quwain was affected around 04:37. The foggy conditions disrupted regular movement, particularly during peak hours, leading to delays and hazardous driving conditions.
Temperature variations
Despite the foggy morning, daytime conditions remain intensely hot. Interior regions are experiencing highs between 42°C and 47°C. Coastal areas and islands are slightly cooler, ranging from 35°C to 40°C. Meanwhile, mountainous regions are seeing temperatures between 33°C and 38°C, with occasional breezes offering mild relief.
Winds are expected to be light to moderate, coming in from the southeast to northeast at speeds of 10 to 20 km/h, potentially picking up to 30 km/h at intervals. This weather pattern contributes to shifting atmospheric conditions across the UAE.
Humidity and forecast
Humidity is expected to increase tonight and into Wednesday morning, with a likelihood of mist developing in some coastal and internal areas. Skies will generally remain fair, though eastern regions may witness occasional clouds. The NCM has reminded residents to rely on verified weather updates and refrain from sharing unconfirmed information.
As the country deals with this transitional phase in weather, the emphasis remains on safety and preparedness amid fluctuating visibility and temperature extremes.
